## After you download

2. **Get past the warning.** The beta isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may stop it. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
3. **Play.** Merlin installs and opens. Choose Dragon's Gate, then Play.

### macOS, Apple silicon

1. **Open the disk image.** Double-click the .dmg in your Downloads folder.
2. **Drag Merlin to Applications.** Then open Merlin from your Applications folder.
3. **Allow it once.** The beta isn't code-signed yet, so macOS stops it the first time. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and choose Open Anyway.

### macOS, Intel

1. **Open the disk image.** Double-click the .dmg in your Downloads folder.
2. **Drag Merlin to Applications.** Then open Merlin from your Applications folder.

### Linux, Ubuntu and Debian

1. **Install the package.** In a terminal, in your Downloads folder:

   ```
   sudo apt install ./merlin-client_*.deb
   ```
2. **Open Merlin.** Find Merlin with your other apps.
3. **Updates ask for your password.** Merlin updates by installing a new package, and Ubuntu asks before it installs anything. That's expected.

### Linux, other (AppImage)

1. **Allow it to run.** Right-click the file, open Properties, and allow it to run as a program.
2. **Install FUSE.** Many systems leave it out. On Ubuntu 24.04 and later:

   ```
   sudo apt install libfuse2t64
   ```

   On Ubuntu 22.04 the package is libfuse2; elsewhere, fuse2 or fuse.
3. **Open Merlin.** Double-click the AppImage. It updates itself in place, so keep it somewhere you'll find it again.

## Questions

### How do I know Merlin Client is safe to run?

We built Merlin with care for your safety and security. It runs on a current release of Electron, the framework behind apps like Discord and VS Code, and we update it as security fixes come out. Merlin's window is walled off from the rest of your computer, so it can't reach your other files or programs on its own. It opens only secure (https) web links, and it never asks for your microphone or camera.

Merlin connects only to Dragon's Gate, over an encrypted connection, and to merlinclient.com to check for updates. Updates download only when you choose. Your scripts, settings and logs stay on your computer, in Merlin's own folder, and nothing is sent to us.

You can also scan the installer with your own antivirus software and AI before running it. We recommend this for any unsigned software you download.

### Why does Windows warn me about Merlin?

For Windows.

The beta isn't code-signed yet, so Windows can't confirm who made it, and it warns you when you open the installer.

Choose More info, then Run anyway.

### Why does my Mac warn me about Merlin?

For macOS, Apple silicon and macOS, Intel.

The beta isn't code-signed yet, so macOS can't confirm who made it, and it stops Merlin the first time it opens.

Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and choose Open Anyway.

### Why does Linux ask for my password when Merlin updates?

For Linux, Ubuntu and Debian.

That's Ubuntu installing the update. Merlin updates the .deb by installing a new package, and the system asks for your password before it installs anything. It's expected.

### How do I open the AppImage?

For Linux, other (AppImage).

The first time, it needs two things. Right-click the file, open Properties, and allow it to run as a program. Then install FUSE, which many systems leave out: on Ubuntu 24.04 and later, run sudo apt install libfuse2t64 in a terminal. On Ubuntu 22.04 the package is libfuse2, and other systems call it fuse2 or fuse.

After that, double-click it to open Merlin. It updates itself in place, so keep it somewhere you'll find it again.

### Does Merlin record my password?

No. Nothing from the login exchange is written to any log, and Merlin never stores your password. The password field is masked while you type, and Merlin reaches Dragon's Gate over an encrypted connection.

### How can I make my account more secure?

Dragon's Gate offers two-factor authentication. Turn it on from the game's account menu, under Manage Account, and you'll enter a code from an authenticator app each time you log in.

### How do I report a bug or share feedback?

[Tell us on Discord](https://merlinclient.com/discord). Say what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and which system you're on. Screenshots help.
